Electronic detection is by far the most safe and accurate method of locating underground services. We use EMF (Electromagnetc Field) technology to locate pipes and cables beneath the surface. There are numerous ways to create an EMF around a service with the most accurate being direct connection or clamping around it at a known point (ie where it enters a maintenance hole or comes out of the ground) . Then using a receiver we can ‘trace’ the alignment and depth of the service in question. Acoustic Watermain Detection

Where watermains that are made of non-metallic materials such as PVC, Polyethylene, Asbestos Cement, Vitrified Clay etc are in the works area we need to use other location methods because Electro Magnetic Fields cannot be will not work. For watermains and house/tap feeds connected to a water source we use a technology known as Acoustic Detection (Watermain Thumping).

Where ‘normal’ EMF locating or Acoustic Watermain Detection cannot be used we recommend using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).
